Pi Gamma Omicron Fraternity, Inc. is a historically significant African-American collegiate fraternity founded on January 1, 1905 at The Ohio State University. Conceived during a period when African-American scholars were systematically excluded from full participation in collegiate life, Pi Gamma Omicron emerged as an intellectual, social, and moral vanguard dedicated to excellence without compromise.
After more than a century of legacy and historical preservation, Pi Gamma Omicron was formally revived on October 4, 2023, marking a defining institutional rebirth. This revival was juridical, organizational, and intentional. On October 5, 2023, by Executive Order, the historic Alpha Chapter was officially re-activated and restored as the living cornerstone of the fraternity.
The fraternity is incorporated in the State of Indiana and headquartered at 8888 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. This address serves as the national nerve center for fraternity governance, administration, and expansion.
On January 1, 1905, at The Ohio State University, eleven visionary African-American men convened to establish Pi Gamma Omicron Fraternity during one of the most restrictive eras in American higher education. At a time defined by segregation, exclusion, and institutional resistance, the founders deliberately chose scholarship, disciplined brotherhood, and leadership as instruments of advancement and collective elevation.
Pi Gamma Omicron was conceived not as a social diversion, but as an intellectual and moral institution — one committed to producing men capable of shaping policy, influencing thought, and leading communities with integrity. Membership demanded academic rigor, ethical responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to service.
As the social and educational landscape evolved over the twentieth century, the fraternity entered a period of dormancy. Importantly, this dormancy was not dissolution. The fraternity’s identity, principles, and historical legitimacy remained intact — preserved rather than extinguished.
That preservation culminated in a formal and historic revival. On October 4, 2023, Pi Gamma Omicron Fraternity was officially revived, restoring its national presence after 121 years of legacy. On October 5, 2023, through Executive Order, the original Alpha Chapter was reactivated, reaffirming an unbroken line of authority from the founders of 1905 to the present day.
This revival stands as one of the most significant institutional resurrections of a Black Greek-letter organization in the modern era — not merely a return to existence, but a reassertion of purpose, authority, and historical destiny.
